With the arrival of new natural leather football boots, such as the adidas Copa, or the Nike Tiempo Legend, we can see that despite the passing of the years, and the change of technologies, leather boots are still present. That's why today we want to review their maintenance, which as we are sure you know, changes a lot compared to the rest of the materials.
Preparation
Once the match or training session is over, the first thing we must do is clean our boots, remove the mud or surface dirt as soon as possible after using them. How to clean leather football boots? If we have played on a wet pitch or the pitch was very wet, it is advisable to dry them as soon as possible, and for this there is nothing better than, just before putting them in the bag or boot, put newspapers or paper inside them to dry them.
Once we have our boots clean and dry, we must begin to prepare them to apply the necessary products to nourish the leather, so that it is very soft and fluffy.
Leather nourishment
The main process where we must pay more attention is in the hydration and care of the leather, since being a natural material, it needs an exceptional care and maintenance. The most important thing is to identify the leather area of our boot, as we have boots completely made of natural leather, such as the classic adidas football boots, or the Puma King football boots, and boots with leather parts, such as the Puma One, or the Nike Tiempo.
Once we have identified the part of the leather, to nourish it properly we must use grease, which will soften the leather and leave it perfect. Among boot care products, horse grease for football boots is what is most commonly used and what works best. Remember that, if you want a good maintenance it is better to use horse grease and we DO NOT RECOMMEND supermarket creams that, although you will surely see them in some changing rooms, they do not work the same way.
Application and Drying
To apply the grease we must apply a layer on the leather in a soft and circular way with a cloth. The amount of grease should be minimal, a small knob of grease should be enough for each of our boots. The layer must be thin, and it is not advisable to overdo it, so if in doubt it is better to use less.
Once the grease has been applied, simply leave the boots to dry in a cool, ventilated place, away from radiators and direct heat. And that's it, now we have our boots ready for the next match or training, we only have to repeat this process to have our boots perfect, comfortable and perfectly adapted to our foot as well as a waterproofing of the surface, which is achieved by the grease itself.
