Practically all of us football fans are counting down the days until the World Cup in Russia this summer, and in the meantime, to make the wait a little more pleasant, we bring you our favourite jerseys from the oldest national team in the history of football: England.
1980-1983 AWAY
The characteristic large crest, the thick stripes on the shoulders and a line across the player's chest make this jersey a museum piece. The company in charge of making this outfit for the English was the now defunct Admiral brand, who stuck to the fashion, as it was characteristic to see the players with very short shorts and very tight jerseys.
1992 HOME
One of the memories of the Sweden 1992 Euro, classic white short-sleeved jersey, with alternating stripes of square diamonds; a column consisting of a continuous chain of overlapping shapes of three different sizes makes it the delight of any retro collector. One of the things that I personally like the most, and that most strikes me on a personal level, is the design and size of the bibs, a classic design if ever there was one.
2013-2014 AWAY
The most up to date jersey to pass through this top. We agree that the England national team is known for making the most classic jerseys of all the national teams, and this one is proof of that. The jersey, with a button-down collar, commemorates the 150-year history of the national team. The white trim on a gold ribbon, the years 1863 and 2013 also in gold on each side, made for the oldest national team in the history of football. Designed to the exact specifications the athlete needs.
2003-2005 HOME
I have to admit that this jersey is very much in the style of the France 1998 World Cup jersey, and this style of jersey is a favourite among collectors all over the world. Red V-neck, extending from the chest to the edge of the emblem, with the classic large crest. The curious thing about this jersey is that for the first time we could see the English wearing on their jerseys, the initials of the names of their players, today it is very common, but we must remember that the English national team has always been very traditional, wearing for much of its history, only the surname of the athlete.
1998 HOME
Finally, the jerseys we saw at the 1998 World Cup in France, many of us will remember them fondly, as well as being a World Cup with a vintage flavour, which was finally won by the hosts with a great Zinedine Zidane, we remember that competition because of the image we have engraved of the sending off of a very young David Beckham, in a match against Argentina, under the watchful eye of Diego Pablo Simeone.
