Football gloves for goalkeepers, as in all football boots, are products that mix different types of textiles, and stay in contact with parts of our body that become extra sweaty like our hands and feet. It may occur that after several uses, these products smell bad. This is due to the accumulation of bacteria that cause the bad smell, especially when they get together with the humidity when the products get wet.
Therefore, the bad smell can appear due to a bad care of our gloves, the typical of not taking them out of the bag all weekend with a wet towel, never drying them, never removing the dirt etc. .... And it can also appear, simply by an accumulation of bacteria by our sweat and humidity when we play in certain fields or in rainy conditions. So, our first advice would be to take good care of our football gloves, air and dry them well, and keep them clean for as long as possible.
So, how do I remove bad smells?
At the point where they smell bad, first of all, we must wash them properly to remove or eliminate all those accumulated bacteria and the bad smell. Washing is best done with the gloves on, with the correct detergent for gloves, and then drying them well with newspapers, and not using them again until they are completely dry, AVOIDING the use of dryers or leaving them in the sun.
Once washed, the smell should disappear or at least not be so intense, after this we recommend the use of a deodorant spray for gloves, which will prevent the odour from reappearing. You can find these products in our glove care and cleaning section, so you will have an extra help to keep your gloves always ready.
We DO NOT RECOMMEND the use of bicarbonate or different detergents that are not specific, as they are very abrasive and will end up damaging the glove or the latex of the palm, ending up damaging our gloves.
In short, by maintaining our gloves correctly, as well as washing them properly, we should NOT have problems with excessive odour. If you already have them, wash them, clean them and leave them to air for a few days so that they dry properly and the gloves look and smell perfect again. Remember to use specific products and to dry them properly.
