Differences between football boots and futsal shoes

Materials used in the upper and soles are an example of how these types of footwear can be distinguished from one another.

If you are a football lover like us, your heart may have been torn between two worlds: football... and futsal - a 40-metre pitch where there is no room or margin for error. Many consider futsal to be a smaller variant of football, but nothing could be further from the truth. They are different sports with different needs. The jerseys, the use or not of gloves or the sport shoes, which we will talk about next, are just some of the differences that can be observed between these two.

The first difference between football boots and futsal shoes lies in the soles. On the one hand, we all associate the world of football with the green colour of the grass on which the game is played. And it is precisely because of the latter that their boots come with studs in all kinds of variations (rubber, aluminium, mixed sole ....) that stabilise the player on a normally soft ground. On the other hand, futsal soles look for a smooth surface that rests well on the parquet or synthetic material where they are played in order to distribute the impact of the footfall well.

Regarding the soles, futsal shoes usually incorporate a midsole that helps to cushion the footsteps in each of the moments in which we play so that we don't suffer the impacts of such a hard surface. In addition, the construction of the shoe usually mixes materials such as natural leather, mesh and synthetics that give us different characteristics both in the tread, as well as in the fit and the strike.

Talking about the materials used, in both sports we see synthetic materials, knit, natural leather and many variations in the way they are fused together. However, in football, we see many models with reinforcements in the upper, such as the adidas Predator, and this is something that is less common in futsal (in the end it doesn't rain and there is no mud, so they are not so necessary), while in the 40x20 courts, we see reinforcements in the toe cap for the toe shots (a resource that should not be underestimated), as well as reinforcements on the sides to avoid wear and tear from rubbing against the court.

In the end we have to conclude that they are different sports, and therefore futsal shoes seek to enhance and help us in situations that derive in technologies that help the player, such as the new super comfortable midsoles (lunarloon, boost, rebound), the mesh for the foot to breathe that we see in brands like Joma or Nike and of course reinforcements and different heights as in the Munich Continental or Gresca and even help to step on the ball as the ‘suction cups’ that we see in the Nike React Gato.

Whereas in football, more aggressive soles are sought after for speed, reinforcement elements to give more spin to the ball, as well as lower profiles to be closer to the pitch.
